Letter from the Founder
Dear Friends,
First, let me thank you for taking the time to explore this information about TeamWorks International.
What started out as a small, well-intentioned group of volunteers has now blossomed into something
much bigger. From its humble beginnings as a month-long service trip to Nicaragua in 2003, TeamWorks
International now has ongoing projects in Nicaragua, India, and Iraq.
It is important to know that TeamWorks is about more than building schools, delivering medical
supplies and playing with children. It is about connecting people with greater hope and opportunity.
And yet in today’s world the fact that 6,000 children die each day from starvation seems of little
consequence. It is all too easy for people to become desensitized by images of poverty and suffering. The fact is that we are so bombarded by those pictures that we are not impacted emotionally at all, nor are we spurned to any sort of action.
TeamWorks is about relationships and it is about action. It is about children and adults from
developing countries around the world being able to survive and thrive so that they can be positive
forces of change in their own communities. I see children from the poorest parts of the world
living and persevering through seemingly insurmountable odds of poverty and famine. I imagine
those same children 20 years from now collaborating with each on how to solve their communities’
challenges themselves because they know their communities best.
We must allow ourselves to be inspired by the possibility that the great issues of our time
(war, AIDS, etc.) can each be addressed through our collective optimism and perseverance. For
more information on how TeamWorks is changing the world one relationship at a time, please contact us. It is my hope that as you browse the information in this website you will vividly envision yourself not just as a spectator of change the world but rather an optimistic participant.
Sincerely,
Matt Gerber
